Consultancy in Internal Medicine: Geriatrics combined with a clinical professorship (chair) in Internal Medicine: Geriatrics

A clinical position as consultant of Geriatrics at the Department of Medicine at Zealand University Hospital is open for appointment from as soon as possible.

The position is combined with a 10-year position as clinical professor (chair) of Internal Medicine: Geriatrics at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen.

With this new position the Department of Medicine, Zealand University Hospital wishes to strengthen the focus on clinical research within the field of Geriatric Medicine in order to provide state of the art care and treatment. The purpose of the professorship is to facilitate a research centre with particular focus on clinical and/or epidemiological research.

The professorship would also be required to participate and organize the teaching of medical students at both bachelor and master level in the newly established medical education in Region Zealand.

It is a requirement that the applicant is accepted for appointment of both the professorship and the consultancy.

As a clinical professor (Chair) at Zealand University Hospital, you become part of a fellowship of professors and other researchers who work to bring research in the forefront for novel treatments to benefit the patients we serve.

About the department

The Department of Medicine has 220 employees and is part of Zealand University Hospital, the youngest University hospital in Denmark. The medical staff consists of 55 doctors with specialties in Geriatrics, Endocrinology, and Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Within the Geriatric specialty there are 8 specialist including two associate professors.

Clinical functions and focus areas of the department

The Department consists of 3 sections including Geriatrics, Endocrinology, and Gastroenterology and Hepatology. The section of Geriatrics consists of an outpatient clinic and a bed ward. The outpatient clinic includes an outgoing team, who weekly visits the skilled nursing facilities in 6 municipalities surrounding the hospital. The outpatient clinic focuses on falls diagnostics (in cooperation with the orthopedian ward and with the endocrinology osteoporosis section) and on oncogeriatrics especially among patients with colorectal cancer (in cooperation with Centre for Surgical Science, ZUH).

The bed ward is primarily for geriatric patients with acute diseases and the ward houses a smaller number of patients with endocrinologic diseases.

Research and teaching

With the new position as consultant in Geriatric Medicine and as a clinical professor (Chair), the Department of Medicine wishes to strengthen leadership in clinical research acknowledging the need for focusing on research and care of geriatric patients. In addition, the Department wants to facilitate the education of the next generation of geriatricians through focus on pre- and especially postgraduate education. The Department has a Research Department that support the clinical research. The Department of Medicine publishes 40 peer review papers yearly.

Qualifications

Applicants must be board-certified specialist in Internal Medicine: Geriatrics.

Conditions

In order to be considered, the applicant must send an application to both the Faculty (the professorship) and to the hospital (the consultancy) cf. the simultaneously advertised position of the professorship. Appointment is conditioned by the fact that the applicant obtains both positions. This also applies to the applicants who are already employed as consultants at Zealand University Hospital.

Salary and conditions of employment as consultant are as agreed between the Danish Regions and the Danish Association of Medical Specialists and between the Capital Region/Region Zealand and University of Copenhagen.

As clinical professor, at least 50 % of the working time will be allocated to academic tasks (e.g., research, teaching, evaluation tasks and communication with the public) in agreement with the Head of Department of Department of Clinical Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. The remaining time will be allocated for clinical work in agreement with the head of Department of Medicine at Zealand University Hospital. The clinical professor will receive secretarial or technical support equivalent to 50 % of a full-time secretary position from the Department of Medicine at Zealand University Hospital. Additional support and details on the working conditions must be negotiated with the head of the department of Medicine at Zealand University Hospital.
